Sams Point Preserve is the area of Minnewaska State Park and the highest area of the Shawangunk Mountains (The "Gunks") in the park. It is known for the large population of Pitch Pines. Google to find out about the fire in 2016 that burned 2000 of the 4000 acres.

A 1.7 mile trail a little off the Appalachian Trail on Route 55 between Route 216 and Pawling. I have been recruited to be it's caretaker/steward and help clear of downed trees, other debris and make sure bushes (blueberries!!!) don't encrouch onto the path. Over a year of work by this uber team created a tribute to hikers and love of nature and the power of giving back to the community. The last photo shows what it looked like before the project began.

These images are from The Teddy Bear Clinic, an outreach program at Montefiore Wakefield Hospital on 233rd Street in the Bronx last month. It's goal was to educate and take fear out of visiting the hospital. Once children visited the ambulance crew and other outdoor booths, participants took their bears (or other loved companions) into through triage, x-ray, infection control, met with doctors from the hospital and went through discharge where they received follow-up instructions. Serious fun.

Photographs in Southern Minnesota, in and around Albert Lea as a snow was starting and the day after.

The Singing Songbirds is a Community Chorus thru the Institute of Music and Health that meets at the Fountains in Millbrook (New York). It is inclusive and no musical experience is required to join -- just the interest in making music. Peter Muir, the director, is an accomplished pianist and directs the chorus to bring out the best in the individuals and the music.

Adams Originals is a store in Southern Minnesota (S. Broadway near Main Street) that specializes in dolls and collectibles. Hours are generally Monday - Saturday from 10 - 5 or 6 pm.

Fundraising Party for Zero To Go, (ZeroToGo.org). An education-based waste management company in Beacon, New York, focused on composting and recycling. They profive zero waste management services in the Hudson Valley. The "trashy" party was at Hudson Valley Brewery in Beacon.

Photos from two hikes along the same path on sequential days. The hike started from the base of Mount Washington in the White Mountains in New Hampshire at the Joe Doge Lodge in Pinkham Notch. It was cold, but manageable.

Paperwhites, a species of Narcisuss, can grow in about anything as long as there is water. They don't need a cold period, they just grow.

March on. Image from the 40th Annual Spirit of Beacon Day and Parade last month. It seems that the entire town turns out. I've been photographing the One River, Many Streams Folk Art Festival portion of this event now for four years and it keeps getting bigger, better and hotter. Lots of sweating and smiling.

They rise about the soybeans, corn and other crops. They are beacons in the distance and fixtures in the landscape in small towns and agricultural communities throughout southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa. Up close they are massive imposing structures that dwarf the large trucks that make up a steady stream of traffic during the harvest season. From a young age, I have been fascinated by these giant irregular structures and, more recently, how they factor into local economics. They inspire me visually like the artwork of M.C. Escher, the typographies of Bernd and Hilla Becher, painting and photography of Charles Sheeler, Charles Demuth and others fascinated by industrial, rural and agricultural architecture. Precious things

The view from behind my table at the Chappaqua Children's Book Festival last month was fascinating. Here are a few pictures documenting interactions with kids interested in "Timeless Triops: A Prehistoric Creature" and "Little Flowers with Big Attitude" both available at Amazon.

These images are an excerpt from an ongoing photographic study of one male figure. It is a a macro exploration with and of Rudy Vavra. Rudy is an artist with a drawing, painting and photography background who has exhibited nationally. His strong visual background as well as experience in modeling for and working with artists has made him the ideal collaborator in the project. The camera with different combinations of lighting and lenses is delivering surprises and delights.

The Dogwood is an early blooming tree in spring. It symbolizes a fresh start and a chance to revisit locations and trees that bring me joy -- one just in the backyard.

Views from a short outing to Mohonk Mountain House near New Paltz. The first image is of me soaking in the view and it is by Mary Moeller. The others are from the easy going hike up and down the mountain.

Photos from the paper-making tour of John Galaskas studio in Standfordville, New York with the lucky eight that didn't have other plans and made the drive through the beautiful northern Dutchess landscape. John is an experienced teacher and the tour included the materials room, dipping and pouring pulp into molds, pulling and then waiting. But the wait meant the tour continued through the exhibit rooms upstairs before resuming with the tipping and trimming.
