Artwork & Product Photography
There are three levels of quality available: Supreme, High Quality and Web Quality.
For Supreme Reproduction and color quality, printing as wide as 44": 4x5 digital photography.
For High Quality Reproduction up to 17" wide and 90.5” long: medium format or full frame 35mm digital
For Web Quality: medium format and full frame digital but delivered with lower resolution. This quality comes with either of the higher quality services.

For example, pastels needs different handling than oil paintings, images under glass are treated differently that non-framed images. High gloss ceramics need a different treatment than fiber art.

Qualifications
As artists and merchants you know your medium. As a photographer and artist, I know mine. But judge for yourself. Book and if you are not satisfied, you pay nothing.
As an artist or gallery owner, you will need promotional photography of yourself and often the installation. You will want the highest quality images to use as display in your gallery, booth, online and in print. With me as your photographer, I can photograph you your artwork, you for publicity and your exhibit.
"The photographs you made of the bracelets were amazing. Not only did they work well on our website, the enlarged versions made our booth at the trade show a magnet from across the room. Thank you for the good work!" Unique Mums
“You brought out the subtle qualities of the artwork and the slideshow PDF files you created of all 60 of the pieces has been a wonderful tool for sending out my new work. Don Nice.

Clients include:
Museum for the Preservation of Illustration Art. In the mid-2000s, I was the photographer and archivist of Mark Miller's illustrations and digitally archived over 750 original pieces with the Better Light digital 4x5 scan back. These paintings were reproduced worldwide during the 50s and 60s in romance magazines. Mr. Miller was also a pioneer in winemaking in New York State and a tireless promoter of his artwork and wines. I was fortunate to be in front of the learning curve with this unique individual using the high-quality 4x5 digital scan back technology, exclusively made by Better Light.
Dan River Textile Company. I photographed over 1000 pieces of original artwork and fabrics. These digital files were used to create designs for bedding, curtains and more. In addition to photographing these originals, I made hundreds of color-matched prints, up to 50" wide. Large pieces were photographed in parts and assembled digitally to create seamless composites.
Other clients include a wide variety of visual artists (painters, ceramists, illustrators, fiber artists, sculptors, mixed media artists), musicians, collectors and merchants.
For images 17" wide and smaller, I custom print in my studio. For larger prints, I work closely with a local fine art printer who takes the images (digital files) and makes limited editions or banners.
I will also work with whomever you select as your printer. If you need images to go with juried shows or competitions, I can prepare them for you (as well as you getting the disk with the digital files). If you are uncertain about technical aspects of digital photography and printing, I will communicate for you.
FAQs
How can I economize? Talk to me about your objectives. Let me know your priorities. Tell me about your artwork so I understand how to show it off at it’s best. Tell me of any flaws, so I can minimize them. Show samples of the publications you would like to be featured in. Send me links to websites with photography you like or of shows you are entering. Show me prints of what you have had done already. Be clear about your deadlines. Wait to schedule photography until you have all the pieces ready. Ask about current studio specials or available discounts.
Where do I start? Schedule a preliminary meeting to see physical samples of my work (no cost). Set up a consult session at your studio for $50 to discuss specifics. Schedule the photography when a body of work is completed. Gang up similar pieces. Don’t wait until the last minute.
Can I be there while you photograph?
In general it is more economical for you if I follow your instructions and email you images to approve. If you wish to be directly involved, then it is a flat $125/hour rate, plus file preparation fees. This can be beneficial to you if the pieces are complicated or if they need on set-styling, like clothing, special setup or propping or if you want ultimate control in the angles that are used and wish to approve each shot as it is are done.
Are you insured? Yes, as a professional photographer, it is necessary. And no, there have never been any loses or accidents. Discuss with me the value of your work, if you feel an additional insurance rider is needed.
You are also a photography instructor. Do you teach this process so I can do it myself? No. While I offer workshops in digital photography and digital cameras, as well as college-level credit courses in photography, photographing artwork is one of the most technical of all kinds of photography. There is no room for lens distortion, grain or digital noise, color shifting or glare due to improper lighting. Basically, the photographer needs to recognize the unique qualities of the artwork and then show it as if the viewer is looking at the art and not a photograph. It takes a high level of accuracy to get the results you want. You hire a professional when you can't afford other than professional results.
